ALL OF YOU PEOPLE SEEM TO MISS THE POINT. SIEMENS IS NOT ONLY GUILTY IN MANY AREAS OF BRIBERY AND CORRUPTION, BUT THIER MAJOR CRIME WAS THE USE OF SLAVE AND FORCED LABOR BOTH BEFORE AND DURING WORLD WAR TWO. MOST OF YOU ARE PROBABLY TO YOUNG TO REMEMBER WORLD WAR TWO, BUT I AM A WORLD WAR TWO VETERAN, AND HAVE NOT FORGOTTEN THIER MANY ATROCITIES AGAINST THE POLISH,HUNGARIAN,JEWISH AND MANY OTHER RACES AND ALSO HOMOSEXUALS AND GYPSIES. SIEMENS MADE A FORTUNE IN THESE ACTIVITIES AND THEY DENIED FOR A LONG TIME THIER ACTUAL PARTICIPATION IN THESE HEINOUS CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY.

SIEMENS WAS AND IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DEATHS OF MANY THOUSANDS OF INNOCENT PEOPLE DURING WORLD WAR TWO, AND THEY ARE STILL CONTRIBUTING TO WORLD UNREST BY SELLING EQUIPMENT TO COUNTRIES WHO ARE TRYING TO ASSEMBLE ATOMIC WEAPONS, WITH WHICH TO THREATEN WORLD PEACE. NICE COMPANY. THANK YOU.

I think key is the measure you mention here: "And more governments and international institutions should be encouraged to publicly list firms they sanction."

This shows again the power of simple transparency that we should sometimes promote much stronger as a key element in fighting corruption.

And transparency measures also allow for monitoring by the public. Sometimes I am inclined to think that this may be even more effective than monitoring by any official oversight and monitoring mechanism...

[...] Kauffman, a scholar of governance at the World Bank and the Brookings Institution, argues that we’ll only see the elimination of corruption when penalties and incentives line up. “What truly raises the cost of bribing will matter, in contrast with PR-friendly measures [...]
