Latest Happenings
April 23rd, 2008. Here a link to the presentation I gave to an ongoing WBI interactive course on Governance & Anticorruption with four francophone African countries. It is clear that empirics do not support either the afro-pessimist camp, or the irrationally exuberant camp. And the evidence also questions the tendency to generalize about a whole continent, when in fact there is so much variation across countries, and between institutions within a country. April 22nd, 2008. Strobe Talbott gave a presentation on his very interesting new book which is just out, called ‘The Great Experiment’ (I was a commentator, emphasizing incentives, incentives, and incentives, of course, since I am an economist at the end of the day…).
April 21st, 2008. Here a link to the presentation on governance to a large ‘Global Economy’ class at Columbia University, New York City. The professor in charge of the class, who invited me as a guest, is the trade economist Sunil Gulati, who also happens to be the President of the US Soccer Federation…
April 16th, 2008: Literally in front of my 2nd floor office, facing Pennsylvania Ave., the Pope just went by at noon today, his Popemobile having slowly emerged from the White House (which is just a block away). There were songs for the Pope’s birthday (it is today). A couple of unedited pictures below, taken by a colleague at work.
